"My
husband, Dan, and I, Susan, have owned and operated GreyStone
for the past 5 years.

When
we first bought this place it was a full dairy operation. After
spending the first year cleaning up the place and removing stanchions,
bullpens, calfpens and who knows how much cow manure out of the
barn, we were finally able to convert this extra large barn into
a horse stable the following year. We also spend many hours removing
barbed wire fencing, old fence posts, tree stumps and many other
hazards on the property that we replaced with Perma Posts which
are made of recycled milk cartons; Centaur and Spur fencing which
are not only strong, but flexible and safe for even the nuttiest
horses. Of course we have made many other improvements and are
still making improvements, but since we are doing just about everything
ourselves we can only do as much as time will allow. Here at GreyStone
we put the horses first whether it's one of our own, horses here
for training or boarded horses. Our pride is shown through the
health and happiness of all the horses, as well as the rest of
the animals here. Dan and I don't have human children, but we
think of all the animals here as our kids. It will always amaze
me that ever since we've lived here we've had visitors every week.
Not always to see us, but rather the animals and the peacefulness
that seems to put everyone at ease. And we won't forget about
fishing in the creek. Everyday we can see wildlife - deer, sandhill
cranes, hawks, herons, fox, woodpeckers, falcons and so much more.
Mornings are always filled with the sounds of many different birds
and dusk always brings us the most beautiful sunsets. All this
serenity makes for great trail riding or practicing for showing
because the horses can really concentrate and stay relaxed at
the same time.

A
little about myself, I've always loved horses and ponies - any
breed, any color, trained in any discipline. I'm not only an owner
of GreyStone, but I'm also the trainer and instructor. My training
is done in the horse's language.
I've
learned that this form of natural training not only shows
results almost immediately, but stays with the horse and
in a matter of no time, trust, respect, confidence, personality
and relaxation all come shining through.
I
will not only train the horses, but I train owners to train
their own horses. I always find this to be the most rewarding
challenge after seeing the owner's faces when they realize
they too can train their equine friend. Teaching people,
of any age, to ride is the second most challenging to me.
Seeing so many different rider/horse combinations, each
riding completely different makes for that many different
types of lessons. As with the horses, people too all have
to be taught as seperate individuals - and I respect and
follow through as such. My instruction not only improves
riding abilities, but also builds confidence in even the
most timid riders.

After
taking note to how many of my clients were first-time horse
owners and being "green" themselves to the very basics of
ownership, I decided to start another program that would
teach people what it takes to own a horse BEFORE they buy.
Clients in this program have appreciated what they've come
to learn and were either confident enough with their knowledge
to buy a horse and maintain their new horse's health and
well-being or came to realize that horses were a bit more
than they could handle and ended up deciding it wasn't for
them after all. With just a few hours a week, anyone can
learn what goes on behind the scenes of owning a horse...and
because I feel so strongly about this, I never charge for
this program.

As
for my husband Dan, he's also an animal lover through and through.
He spends most of his hours at his job and when he comes home
he has to say hi to all the animals and ask about the ones he
doesn't see right away, then he gets himself busy on improvements,
lawn cutting and anything else that needs to be done. He is learning
more and more about horses and how to ride them, but with his
busy schedule, the process is at a slower pace.

He's
a good man and it won't be too much longer when we'll be able
to mount up and ride off into the sunset together."
